Outdoor Fire Place Ideas

Having an outdoor fire place in San Diego can be both practical and scenic. No matter what part of the county you are in, an outdoor fire pit can offer wonderful views and romantic evenings. This outdoor fireplace project was built in San Diego County with the overall design of the homeowner’s back yard in mind.

Outdoor Fire Pit Project

We used concrete masonry units (CMU) to construct the base of this fire pit. Flagstone was used as a veneer and cap for the landscaping project. The concrete block was reinforced with #3 rebar and filled with concrete grout. We used a multi-colored flagstone for this fire pit in order to enhance its beauty and bring contrast to the surrounding landscape and water feature. Keeping the theme of the surrounding landscape was very important. The fuel for this outdoor fire place is natural gas, which was supplied via a poly gas line connected to the customers gas meter. We installed a control key to allow the customer to turn the fire pit on and off and to control the flow. Although nights in San Diego County can be warm on summer nights, an outdoor fire pit feature allows for the family and friends to enjoy the beautiful landscape and water feature in their yard. Fire pits of this size can cost anywhere between $2,500 and $3000, depending on the length of the gas line that connects the fire pit burner with the gas meter. The price also depends on the media used to cover the stainless steel burner. For this project in San Diego County we used a burgundy cinder rock. It complimented the earth tones in the flagstone fire pit nicely.
